Are you starting a new business in the Baltimore area and looking for the right company to build your new website?
There are 3 important factors that you must consider. I am going to tell you a few of them before you decide on a company that might not meet your business goals.
First, there is the no-brainer: Pricing. You might find a large company that will build you a “promising” website but charges you $15,000 – $20,000. Are they worth it? I can assure you they are not. There are so many small companies that can build your site for more than half the price, and probably do a better job too. Look for something under $10,000, but over $2,000. That is a safe middle. For instance, we charge around $3500 – $5000 for most new business websites.
Second, you need to think about whether you will be making updates or paying the company to update the site. This really depends on how much updating you will be doing. If it is constant, you may need to have a content management system and update the website yourself. If you rarely plan on updating the information, it might be easier to let the company do it for a small hourly rate. I have found companies that charge over $100 an hour for updates, which I find to be ridiculous. To give you some perspective, we charge only $50 an hour.
Third, you need to think about the SEO. It’s one thing to have a good looking website, but another to have one that is showing up in Google searches. I say Google because this is where 90% of your searches are going to come from. Companies can charge and arm and a leg for this, but it really depends on how much you want to spend. At Island Blue Design, we use different plans. All are successful, but we understand people can not afford to be the first item on each page.
I hope we were able to teach you a little about choosing a company. And remember, email us first!
